Which popular compact crossover is a better fit for you, the 2022 Ford Bronco Sport or Toyota RAV? With their city-friendly dimensions and peppy powertrains, each of these models has a lot to recommend it. But you can only drive home in one, so our buying guide is here to help you take a closer look at each model.
Best Price: 2022 Toyota RAV4
The Toyota RAV4 has a slightly lower price, starting at $26,975. However, the 2022 Ford Bronco Sport is still very reasonable, with an MSRP of $28,265. When you move up the trim levels or add options to either crossover, however, the price can rise quickly.
Premium Power and Performance: 2022 Ford Bronco Sport
The Bronco Sport offers two powertrain options, the most powerful of which includes a 250-horsepower four-cylinder engine. And every Bronco Sport includes all-wheel drive, creating a sportier drive, on-road and off.
- Turbocharged 1.5L three-cylinder engine (181 horsepower, 190 lb-ft of torque)
- Turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine (250 hp, 277 lb-ft)
- Eight-speed automatic transmission
- All-wheel drive
The standard Toyota RAV4 powertrain gives you a little more heft than the Bronco Sport’s standard three-cylinder engine. However, it can’t compete with the Bronco Sport’s upgraded engine. The RAV4 doesn’t feel quite as dynamic with its front-wheel-drive setup, either, but all-wheel drive is available.
- Inline four-cylinder engine (203 hp, 184 lb-ft)
- Eight-speed automatic transmission
- Front-wheel drive
- Optional all-wheel drive
Off-Road Performance: 2022 Ford Bronco Sport
Every Bronco Sport trim model was meant for off-road adventure. Standard all-wheel drive improves traction on soft surfaces. And every Bronco Sport comes with a Terrain Management System to help you navigate sand or slippery pavement with enhanced precision. If you want to take performance to the next level, the Bronco Sport Badlands trim model provides an upgraded all-wheel drive system, underbody skid plates, front tow hooks, all-terrain tires, and Ford’s Trail Control system.
Although the Toyota RAV4 comes standard with front-wheel drive, you can add trail-friendly all-wheel drive as an option. And the RAV4 also offers a TRD Off-Road trim model, which improves performance with all-terrain tires and an off-road-tuned suspension. It’s not as handsomely equipped as the Bronco Sport Badlands, however.
Interior Comfort and Tech Gear: 2022 Ford Bronco Sport
The Bronco Sport is our first choice for everyday cruising comfort, too. With more head, leg, and hip room in the front seats, it’s easy to find the perfect spot behind the wheel. The Bronco Sport also offers interior upgrades you won’t find in the RAV4, such as leather-trimmed seats. We’re also big fans of the Sync 3 infotainment system, which treats you to seamless smartphone connectivity via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Although the Toyota RAV4 isn’t quite as roomy or luxurious, it does offer a wide range of creature comforts. Just like the Bronco Sport, the RAV4 offers upgrades, like a panoramic sunroof and heated steering wheel. And Toyota’s compact crossover also comes standard with smartphone-friendly infotainment.
Your Next Small Crossover SUV
The 2022 Toyota RAV4 is a reliable option, but the 2022 Ford Bronco Sport has all the fun. Choose Ford’s latest compact crossover for a rugged performance, chiseled exterior styling, and a comfy, high-tech cabin.
