2023 Ford F-150 vs Toyota Tundra

The Ford F-150 is the best selling pickup for a reason. And yes, even more than the Toyota Tundra. The Ford F-150 has almost 2000 pounds more of towing capacity, maxing out at 14,000 pounds while the Tundra only gets up to 12,000. Not only that but the F-150 has nearly double the payload capacity as the Tundra with 3,250 pounds, whereas the Toyota only provides 1,940 pounds of payload capacity. We have waited a long time for the Tundra to build a hybrid engine that would provide us with better gas mileage than the domestic offerings, however the all new Tundra’s hybrid powertrain only provides 20 – 24 mpg while the Ford F-150’s hybrid powertrain manages 25 – 26. When filling up these hard working pickup trucks, every mile counts. Not only does the Ford truck have better fuel economy, it now has the new Rattler off-roading option, which gets you an off-roading focused truck for less.

The Toyota Tundra is the truck comparable to the Ford F-150, for size and capability. The Tundra is a half-ton truck much the same as the F-150 and has similar sized engines, cabins and beds. However, that is where most of the similarities stop, as the Ford F-150 has a wider array of engines and options, not to mention the all new Lightning model that has an electric powertrain. Although the F-150 may be superior, the Tundra has left its mark in the class, with other trucks competing with one of the only serious foreign offerings. Tundra brings style and a different perspective on trucks, making it very competitive, as many Americans have come to trust the Toyota brand for its reliability and power. Ford has had to offer more stylish F-150s and stronger builds as a result both trucks have become two very competitive vehicles in the market.

For the most part, the Toyota Tundra is a larger truck than the F-150. But only by a few inches in the width and height. The Tundra may be the larger vehicle for the most part, but the Raptor variant of the F-150 is quite possibly one of the largest trucks on the road, and no truck truly comes close to the size of the truck. And the F-150 has a larger overall passenger volume at 136 cubic feet versus the Tundra’s 117 cubic feet. The Ford F-150 has more power and a wider array of options with eight trim models and five engines to choose from.
