Which of these off-road trucks is going to be best for you in 2023 the Ford Ranger or the GMC Canyon? Either of these trucks are worth their price. In our comparison guide we’ll show you why the Ranger has beaten out the competition.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- Superior fuel milage on the Ranger vs the Canyon.
- More Cargo space in the Ranger than the Canyon.
- Ample tech features among a variety of trims for each truck.
- The Ranger does quite match the horsepower of the Canyon, but not by much.
WHICH TRUCK IS MORE AFFORDABLE?
Overall, The Ford Ranger is going to have less of an impact on your bank account than the GMC Canyon. Even over its more variety of trims, the Ranger is the more affordable truck. Each level of trim comes with its own set of perks. As you increase the levels of trim there are going to be differences in interior comfort and upgraded technological capabilities.
The three trims for the Ranger with their prices are:
- Ford Ranger XL Net Price $31,900
- Ford Ranger XLT Net Price $38,800
- Ford Ranger LARIAT Net Price $48,200
The 2023 GMC Canyon comes with four trims which includes their more luxury-styled Denali:
- GMC Canyon Elevation Net Price $36,900
- GMC Canyon AT4 Net Price $43,900
- GMC Denali Net Price $51,000
- GMC Canyon AT4X Net Price $55,500
POWER AND UTILITY
The Ranger does things a little differently than most other Ford trucks. It comes with only one standard engine, a 2.3-liter EcoBoost with 270 hp. The Canyon has a 2.7-liter turbo high-output engine that gives drivers 310 horsepower. Naturally, with the higher horsepower, the Canyon can pull 200 pounds more than the Ranger’s 7,500 pounds. When comparing base models, the power of the Canyon is superior. But we can expect the 2023 Ford Ranger Raptor to be more of a direct competitor to the Canyons engine. The Raptor has a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces 391 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque. If you like the original features of the Ranger over the Canyon but aren’t sure about the horsepower, the Raptor will be worth the upgrade. The Ranger’s base model is overall able to haul more than the Canyon maxing out almost 52 cubic feet of bed space and a payload capacity of 1,860 pounds max. That’s well over 200 pounds more hauling work the Ranger can do than the Canyon.
FEATURES: 2023 FORD RANGER
We are most impressed with the Rangers Co-Piloting system over the Canyon’s. Every Ranger trim comes with Ford’s Co-Pilot 360 technology, and an 8” infotainment system. Between those two features paired with the open window view of the Ranger compared with the Canyon, the Ranger offers the more visible drive. Ford’s Co-Pilot technology is some of the best we have seen on the market. It comes with BLIS technology, short for Blind Spot Information System. This all-inclusive system has cross traffic alerts, lane-keeping systems, pre-collision assists, and rear-view camera are all included. Most important, all of these work as trailering assists. The Canyon does offer a surround-view camera system with up to ten cameras and a heads-up display to help mitigate distracted driving.
WHICH WILL BE YOUR NEXT PICKUP?
If you’re looking for an affordable option that is packed with features – the 2023 Ford Ranger is going to be the best truck for you. The Canyon compares great to any other towing truck on the market, but the Ranger is perfect for any buyer looking to get the job done efficiently and not sacrifice gas mileage to a heavier engine.
