What exactly is the difference between the redesigned 2023 Ford Super Duty and 2022 Ford Super Duty? Our comparison guide helps you figure out how the redesigned version of Ford’s heavy-duty trucks differs from that of the previous model year.
Premium Interior Space
Both versions of Ford’s heavy-duty truck are big on roomy, supportive seating. And both offer a variety of trim levels, which means you get to choose the amount of luxury you crave. Features like heated and ventilated seats, leather upholstery, and dual-zone automatic climate control are available for both pickups. The redesigned 2023 Super Duty does add one notable comfort feature, the Max Recline Seats, which lean so far back that you can take a comfy nap at rest stops.
Smart Tech Features
The outgoing Super Duty can be equipped with some important driver safety aids:
- Trailer brake controller
- Forward collision mitigation
- Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert
- Automatic high beams
However, the 2023 Ford Super Duty adds a long list of new tech features, including many that help you tow a trailer with increasing safety. For example, the Smart Hitch technology automatically lines up your truck hitch with a trailer receiver. The new trailer-based navigation system takes your trailer’s dimensions into account to plan a route that’s free of too-tight turns or low-hanging bridges.
- Blind-spot monitoring for fifth-wheel and gooseneck trailers
- 360-degree trailer camera system
- Onboard scales with Smart Hitch
- Pro Trailer Hitch Assist
- Tailgate-down camera with tailgate-down reverse sensing system
- Trailer navigation
- Intelligent adaptive cruise control with Stop-and-Go and Lane Centering
Powertrain Options
The 2022 Super Duty trucks offer three heavy-duty engine options, all of which are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission:
- Standard 6.2-liter V8 (385 horsepower, 430 lb-ft of torque)
- 7.3L V8 (430 hp, 475 lb-ft)
- Turbodiesel 6.7L V8 (475 hp, 1,050 lb-ft)
Although we don’t yet know how powerful the 2023 Super Duty engines will be, we do know that you’ll have four options:
- Standard 6.8L V8
- 7.3L V8
- Turbodiesel 6.7L V8
- High-output turbodiesel 6.7L V8
As you can see, the 2023 offers a new standard engine, a bigger gas-powered V8. You’ll also be able to select a high-output version of Ford’s Power Stroke turbodiesel V8, which we expect to deliver best-in-class torque.
Truck Configurations
We expect the 2023 Ford Super Duty configuration options to look a lot like those from the 2022 model year. That means there will be several trim models (the 2022 Super Duty has six: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited), three cabin options (regular, extended SuperCab, and SuperCrew), and two bed sizes (6.75 feet and 8 feet).
Your New Super Duty
In the end, the 2022 Ford Super Duty remains an excellent choice for your heavy-duty towing and hauling needs. But the 2023 Ford Super Duty stands to be not only more powerful, but also increasingly tech-savvy and work-friendly!
