The 2023 Ford Super Duty and GMC Sierra HD are two heavy-duty trucks with a lot in common, from their torque-heavy engine options to their comfortable cabins. Which should you choose? Our comparison guide has the facts.
Powertrain Options: 2023 Ford Super Duty
Full disclaimer: we don’t yet know how much horsepower the Super Duty can generate. However, based on Ford’s previous heavy-duty trucks, we fully expect these new models to meet or exceed the best-in-class figures from 2022. Four engine options are available:
- Standard 6.8L gas-powered V8
- 7.3L gas-powered V8
- 6.7L Power Stroke diesel-powered V8
- High-output 6.7L Power Stroke diesel-powered V8
There are only two heavy-duty engines available for the 2023 GMC Sierra HD. Although we suspect they won’t deliver as much power as the redesigned Super Duty, the Sierra HD engines are pretty impressive:
- Standard 6.6L V8 (401 horsepower, 464 lb-ft of torque) + six-speed automatic transmission
- Duramax diesel 6.6L V8 (445 hp, 910 lb-ft) + 10-speed automatic transmission
Interior Comfort: It’s a Tie!
When it comes to cabin options and luxury features, the 2023 Ford Super Duty and GMC Sierra HD are very well matched. Both heavy-duty models offer your choice of regular, extended, or crew cabins, giving you the space you require. And both trucks provide a range of trim models, with your choice of luxury features such as leather upholstery and heated seats.
Problem-Solving Technology: 2023 Ford Super Duty
The 2023 Ford Super Duty is loaded with work-friendly tech goodies that you won’t find anywhere else. A new trailer navigation system helps you plot a route that’s free of tight turns and low-hanging overpasses. A new blind-spot monitor takes the length of your gooseneck or fifth-wheel trailer into account. And the Pro Trailer Hitch Assist system automatically lines up your truck’s hitch with a trailer receiver. Here’s a look at a few more highlights:
- Trailer Navigation
- Blind Spot Information System for Fifth Wheel and Gooseneck
- Tailgate Down Camera and Tailgate Down Reverse Sensing System
- Pro Trailer Hitch Assist
- Full-color head-up display
The GMC Sierra HD offers a few of the same features as the Super Duty. For example, both heavy-duty trucks help you steer clear of obstacles with a surround-view camera system. However, the Sierra HD isn’t quite as tech-savvy as the Super Duty — at least not yet.
High-Tech Safety: 2023 Ford Super Duty
The redesigned Super Duty has safety features you won’t find on any other heavy-duty truck. For example, its newly available adaptive cruise control system includes stop-and-go technology that can automatically navigate a highway traffic jam. Other standout features include:
- Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go and Lane Centering
- Forward/Reverse Sensing System
- Front and Rear Brake Assist
- Trailer Theft Alert
The GMC Sierra HD offers some safety aids, but none of them are standard equipment. Whereas forward collision mitigation with automatic emergency braking is standard for every Super Duty trim model, you’ll only find this technology on the Sierra HD’s top-trim Denali. Both trucks offer blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure warning.
Choose Your Heavy-Duty Truck
The redesigned 2023 Ford Super Duty trounces the competition, delivering best-in-class power and work-friendly features you won’t find anywhere else. You’ll also love the Super Duty’s rich interior comfort and upscale options. It’s the best choice to help you tackle heavy-duty workloads.
