When you can’t decide between the 2022 Ford Expedition and Jeep Wagoneer, we can help. Our comparison guide is here to help you sort out these full-size SUVs. By the end, you’ll know which rugged, three-row family hauler is right for you.
Rich Interior Comfort: 2022 Jeep Wagoneer
Here, the Wagoneer scores big with its swanky standard lineup. Every Wagoneer treats you to leather upholstery, three-zone climate control, and heated and ventilated front seats. And moving up the three trim levels gets you even more creature comforts, including heated second-row captain’s chairs and adaptive air suspension.
Although the Expedition isn’t as luxurious right off the bat, it does offer the aforementioned features as optional upgrades. The base Expedition is still pretty friendly, too, with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, power-adjustable driver’s seat, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
Technology: 2022 Ford Expedition
When it comes to cutting-edge technology, the Expedition has more to offer both in its standard lineup and its available features. Compared to the Wagoneer, for example, the Expedition comes with a bigger, 12-inch touchscreen. And every Expedition makes it easy to access your favorite smartphone apps, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. As you move up the trim levels, you’ll find some very coveted upgrades, including a 22-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system.
On the Wagoneer, you also get some impressive standard features, including a 10.1-inch touchscreen. Like the Expedition, Jeep’s three-row SUV includes a standard Wi-Fi hotspot and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. A nine-speaker Alpine sound system comes standard, but the Wagoneer doesn’t offer the same kind of premium sound upgrades as the Expedition.
Outsized Power: 2022 Ford Expedition
At first glance, it may not look like the Expedition is the more powerful model. However, while most trim models come standard with the 375-horsepower version of the Expedition’s turbocharged V6, there are two high-output versions of this engine available. The luxurious Platinum model ups the ante, with 400 horses and 480 pound-feet of torque. And the Expedition also offers off-road-ready options — namely, the Timberline trim model and the Stealth Performance package — which make even more power, with 440 horses and 510 pound-feet of torque.
- Turbocharged 3.5L V6 (375 hp, 470 lb-ft)
- 10-speed automatic transmission
- Rear-wheel drive
- Optional four-wheel drive
The Jeep Wagoneer powertrain is a little more straightforward. This SUV features the same V8 engine in every trim model, with no output variations. The Wagoneer does offer a little more standard power than the Expedition, but ultimately can’t match its optional upgrades.
- 5.7L V8 engine (392 horsepower, 404 lb-ft of torque)
- Eight-speed automatic transmission with eTorque mild hybrid technology
- Rear-wheel drive
- Optional four-wheel drive
Thriftiest Price: 2022 Ford Expedition
The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer may come standard with more luxury features, but it will also cost you an extra chunk of change. The base model starts at $58,995. Meanwhile, the base Explorer has an MSRP of $53,375, giving you the potential to save thousands of dollars on a brand new SUV.
Your New SUV
So, which model is right for you? The Wagoneer certainly comes standard with more luxury features, but they come at a cost. Meanwhile, the Expedition checks more boxes, offering greater power, rugged capabilities, and a wealth of tech features. You can even add as many luxury features as you wish!
