Which compact cargo van best suits your business, the 2022 Ford Transit Connect or Ram Promaster City? Our comparison guide is here to help you take a closer look at each of these city-friendly options.
Best Price: It’s a Tie!
If you’re populating a fleet or simply want to keep costs down, the Transit Connect should be your first choice. Although price varies according to body style and equipment, the MSRP starts at $27,920. The Ram Promaster City is only a couple hundred less with an MSRP starting at $27,725.
Fuel Economy: 2022 Ford Transit Connect
The Transit Connect offers two powertrain options:
- 2.5L four-cylinder engine (169 hp, 171 lb-ft) + six-speed automatic transmission
- Turbo 2.0L four-cylinder engine (162 hp, 144 lb-ft) + eight-speed automatic transmission
The most efficient version of this cargo van uses the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and earns up to 25 mpg combined (24 city/27 highway).
There’s only one available powertrain for the Ram Promaster City:
- 2.4L four-cylinder engine (178 hp, 174 lb-ft) + nine-speed automatic transmission
Even with that extra transmission gear, however, this cargo van isn’t as efficient as the Transit Connect. Every Promaster Ram is EPA-rated for 24 mpg combined (21/28 mpg).
Max Hauling: 2022 Ram Promaster City
If you’ve got major lifting to do, the Promaster City can help. Properly equipped, this compact cargo van can haul up to 1,890 pounds.
However, the Transit Connect cargo van is a strong contender. Ford’s small commercial van can haul up to 1,570 pounds of your company supplies. And it also ties the Promaster City for towing performance, with a maximum tow rating of 2,000 pounds.
Multiple Configurations: 2022 Ford Transit Connect
The Transit Connect is much more flexible than the Ram Promaster City. Ford’s small commercial van lets you choose between passenger and cargo versions. You can also choose a short or long wheelbase, the latter of which creates extra interior space. Finally, you can choose between a rear liftgate and symmetrical rear doors, changing how you access cargo.
There’s only one available Ram Promaster City body style. It’s a cargo van with 180-degree-opening rear doors and one standard wheelbase. However, like the Transit Connect, the Ram Promaster City offers lots of interior options, so you can upgrade your comfort levels and tech gear as you see fit.
Your New Cargo Van
Although the 2022 Ram Promaster City is exceedingly capable, the 2022 Ford Transit Connect offers a wider variety of configurations and powertrains to suit your specific needs. Which is great news for business owners everywhere.
