Which commercial van is right for your company, the 2022 Ford Transit or the Transit Connect? Once you know what each model has to offer, it should be easy to choose the one that best suits your business. Let’s get started.
Price
As a compact commercial van, the 2022 Ford Transit Connect comes at a much lower rate, starting at $27,920. Its MSRP alone has the potential to boost your bottom line, but the Transit Connect also has the potential to help you save money at the pump, earning up to 26 mpg combined (24 city/28 highway).
The 2022 Ford Transit is a full-size commercial cargo van. Like the smaller Transit Connect, it’s available as a cargo van or a passenger wagon. The Transit starts at $42,600, and the price rises along with the options you add.
Passenger & Cargo Versions
Both the Ford Transit and the Transit Connect let you choose from a variety of body styles, and both are available as a passenger wagon or cargo van.
The full-size Transit lets you choose from both multiple roof and wheelbase options, so you can create the interior space you require. The Transit is available as three models: the Cargo Van, Crew Van, and Passenger Van. The Passenger Van is further divided into two trim models: the base XL and upgraded XLT. Depending on which body style you select, the Passenger Van can seat up to 15 passengers.
The compact Transit Connect offers regular and extended-wheelbase versions, but only a single roof height. Passenger models are divided into three trim levels: XL, XLT, and Titanium. And you can choose from two cargo van trims: the XL and XLT. Depending on configuration, the Transit Connect has space for up to seven passengers.
Power & Performance
The Ford Transit is both the bigger and more powerful van. It offers two powertrains, the standard V6 and optional turbocharged V6. Both are linked to a 10-speed automatic transmission that drives the rear wheels, creating a tow-friendly performance. All-wheel drive is also available, boosting stability on wet roads.
2022 Ford Transit powertrain options:
- 3.5L V6 (275 horsepower, 262 pound-feet of torque)
- Turbo 3.5L V6 (310 hp, 410 lb-ft)
There are two 2022 Ford Transit Connect powertrain options:
- Turbo 2.0L four-cylinder engine (162 hp, 144 lb-ft) + eight-speed automatic transmission
- 2.5L four-cylinder engine (169 hp, 171 lb-ft) + six-speed automatic transmission
Neither is as powerful as what the full-size Transit offers, but this compact commercial van doesn’t need as much of a boost to get going. The Transit Connect only offers front-wheel drive.
Capabilities
Depending on how you configure yours, the 2022 Ford Transit supplies up to 247 cubic feet of cargo space. Maximum payloads reach 3,690 pounds. If you’ve got extra gear to tow, the full-size Transit is also very capable, with max tow ratings of 7,500 pounds.
With its city-friendly dimensions, the 2022 Ford Transit Connect provides up to 127 cubic feet of cargo space. Depending on configuration, this compact cargo van can transport up to 1,549 pounds of cargo. Maximum tow ratings reach 2,000 pounds.
Choose Your Commercial Van
Whether you need the 2022 Ford Transit or the Transit Connect really comes down to your company’s unique requirements. The full-size Transit is stronger and roomier, but it also costs more. The Transit Connect offers city-friendly parking dimensions and a lower price to strengthen your bottom line. Depending on how much cargo you transport each day, the smaller and more efficient Transit Connect may be the better option.
